The big bit of drama is that the father has lost his job but it doesn't exactly impact too greatly on the girls lives. Although called Ramona and Beezus the film is most definitely about Romana with Beezus (played by Selena Gomez) only given a subplot of any real note but even that seems to be ignored for great chunks of the film. All the story strands are predictable, the gags fall flat and it is way too long. One for undemanding ten year old girls only. selena gomez not winning an oscar for this is very telling of the academy

She accidentally cracks a raw egg in her hair; she vomits in front of her whole class. The movie adaptation takes pretty much all of those mishaps and crams them into a 90-minute movie. As such, Ramona doesn't come across as a plucky, slightly mischievous but ultimately sweet kid. She's more like a rolling disaster; a female Dennis the Menace. So, the movie is much more focused on antics than the book is. It's a little too packed with mayhem for me, but not so much that it completely misses the spirit of the books. … K: i saw it wen i was in the car one time M: anything else? K: no Boring G-rated generic kids movie. And yet, my kids loved it, so it did what it was supposed to do. Have not watched this film in around 7 years and I still think about it probably once a week. Most of what I think about being a child came from watching this movie and reading the books. Came to my mind quite in depth recently when I was thinking about family relationships for an essay I'm writing. Everything I knew and wanted about family when I was a child came from Ramona and Beezus.
