The action has become a fine blend of over-the-top entertainment and humanist realism. It's a trickery. Less gentle and rooted than the… "hey, it sure is cool to see an Indian movie this tightly paced, unrelenting, and tense, without any forced flashbacks or contrived narration.... there isn't even a 10 minute musical number!! " — me in the first 1 hr 45 min of this then the movie takes a turn that legitimately surprised me and I thought "are they gonna commit to this? If so I love it" but of course the movie didn't and all the worst Indian movie tropes come out and the main character does something totally illogical by the movie's standards, but by typical Indian movie standards, perfectly normal. (reminded me of the last few episodes of DEATH NOTE) Still overall a good time, the final scene… The closest a Tamil film got to western genre films like Carpenter's assault on Precinct 13, Spielberg's Duel, Miller's Fury Road while managing to keep the masala sensibilities intact and the results are pretty impressive.

After Asuran, Tamil cinema serves us another mass entertainer that doesn't do disservice to its lean and tense narrative. The plot contrivances are there, melodrama is slipped in, but it is injected smartly in the plot and never overwhelms or diverts the attention from its plot. The climax is peak MASS moment. I honestly don't see how any masala film will ever top that! Other than one action sequence going a little bit over the top than required this film is a treat to action lovers. Indian's own John Wick on a Mad Max truck. The lungi clad hero using a machine gun is a sight that is not seen much. Incorporating humour and a bit of emotional scenes have been done with precision as to not affect the tone of the film. Karthi's performance is also commendable as he brilliantly does the action and the emotional scenes with ease. The only issue for me is the editing which follows a few techniques often used in Tamil action films which looks quite ameturish filmmaking even with good enough budget.
